About the Department
Gynecology and Obstetrics
As Private Akdeniz Hospital Gynecology and Obstetrics Department, we provide services in many areas starting from general diagnosis and treatment services related to gynecology and obstetrics, from menopause and osteoporosis to the follow-up of risky and normal pregnancies.
General Gynecology Services
We provide polyclinic services, where all health problems are diagnosed and treated, and routine controls and preventive medicine practices are successfully carried out for women of all ages, starting from adolescence to the menopause period.
Ultrasonography examinations, PAP-smear tests and routine gynecology examinations are performed in our hospital for the early diagnosis of gynecological cancers, especially inguinal pain, menstrual irregularity, infections that cause diseases.
Pregnancy and High-Risk Pregnancy Follow-up Services
One of the most important and sensitive periods in women's lives is pregnancy. With the pregnant outpatient clinics in our hospital, we stand by the expectant mothers and work to ensure that they can complete this process in a healthy way for their babies and themselves.
From the first week of pregnancy until delivery, all mothers-to-be are followed up with ultrasound devices as standard. Among the routine tests performed for the diagnosis are examinations such as dual screening test, fetal nuchal nuchal thickness measurement, quadruple screening test, diabetes screening test, cervical length measurement, and fetal monitoring (NST). Depending on the development of pregnancy, delivery options with normal, cesarean or epidural anesthesia are also performed successfully.
In the presence of diseases that are classified as high-risk pregnancies and that may cause complications during pregnancy, follow-up is carried out with the support of our experienced Gynecology and Obstetrics staff as well as other branches. Physicians and nurses of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit accompany the births of these pregnancies with their experienced staff, ready to intervene at any time, for babies who are likely to have health problems.
In our hospital, service is provided by a staff of doctors and nurses who provide the care that our babies need, with a sense of compassion as well as expertise.
Menopause and Osteoporosis Follow-ups
Menopause is one of the special periods in women's lives that should be dealt with scientifically and sensitively. Necessary treatments are carried out in the Gynecology and Obstetrics Departments of our hospital so that patients can spend the menopause period in a healthy and comfortable way. Physicians of our Gynecology and Obstetrics Department plan treatments in close cooperation with other medical disciplines in order to prevent osteoporosis (bone loss) that develops due to menopause and to minimize the destruction on patients.

WHAT IS DYSMENORRHEA? HOW IS IT TREATED?
DYSMENORRHEA IS A CONDITION IN WHICH PAIN IS FELT DURING MENSTRUATION, WHICH CAN START WITH THE FIRST MENSTRUATION IN YOUNG GIRLS.
THE PAIN MAY BE ACCOMPANIED BY NAUSEA, VOMITING AND CRAMPS IN THE LOWER ABDOMEN.
SOMETIMES THE CRAMPS CAN RADIATE DIRECTLY TO THE LEGS. IN THE PATHOLOGIC TYPE, THE PAIN MAY CONTINUE AFTER MENSTRUATION.
DYSMENORRHEA IS DIVIDED INTO TWO TYPES.
**PRIMARY DYSMENORRHEA:
THIS IS THE MOST INNOCENT TYPE. IT CAN DISAPPEAR WITH ADVANCING AGE AND AFTER CHILDBIRTH. IT OCCURS MOSTLY IN YOUNG GIRLS AFTER THE FIRST MENSTRUATION. DURING MENSTRUATION, THE UTERUS CONTRACTS WHILE EXPELLING MENSTRUAL BLOOD AND DURING THIS TIME, WITH THE NATURAL PRODUCTION OF SOME CHEMICALS, THERE MAY BE CRAMP-LIKE PAIN UNDER THE NAVEL, NAUSEA AND EVEN VOMITING.
THERE IS NO PATHOLOGY IN THE UTERUS, OVARIES AND INTERNAL GENITAL ORGANS. THE PAIN USUALLY STARTS WITH MENSTRUAL BLEEDING AND DISAPPEARS ON THE SECOND OR THIRD DAY.
**SECONDARY DYSMENORRHEA:
IN THIS TYPE, PAIN INCREASES WITH MENSTRUAL BLEEDING BUT MAY CONTINUE AFTER MENSTRUATION. SOMETIMES PAIN MAY START BEFORE MENSTRUATION STARTS. IT IS MORE COMMON IN OLDER AGES. ALSO, PAIN AND CRAMPS MAY LAST LONGER IN THIS TYPE. IN SECONDARY DYSMENORRHEA, THERE IS A CONCOMITANT PATHOLOGICAL CONDITION IN THE INTERNAL GENITAL ORGANS. IT IS IMPORTANT TO DETERMINE THIS AND TO ORGANIZE TREATMENT ACCORDINGLY. THE MOST COMMON CONCOMITANT DISEASES ARE:
1-MYOMS
2-CHOCOLATE CYSTS (ENDOMETRIOSIS)
3- ADHESIONS DUE TO PREVIOUS FEMALE GENITAL TRACT INFECTION
4-CONGENITAL ANOMALIES OF UTERINE STRUCTURE
5-INTRAMURAL DRIVING
6-TISSUE ADHESIONS DUE TO PREVIOUS GYNECOLOGICAL INTERVENTIONS
7-ENDOMETRIAL OR CERVICAL POLYPS
DIAGNOSIS:
GYNECOLOGIC EXAMINATION FINDINGS AND MEDICAL HISTORY OF THE PATIENT ARE VERY IMPORTANT IN DIAGNOSIS. THE ONSET AND COURSE OF THE PAIN SHOULD BE CONSIDERED IN RELATION TO MENSTRUATION. IN CASES WHERE GYNECOLOGIC EXAMINATION AND ULTRASOUND ARE NOT SUFFICIENT, LAPAROSCOPIC (EXAMINATION OF INTERNAL ORGANS WITH A CAMERA) EXAMINATION CAN BE PERFORMED AS AN AUXILIARY.
TREATMENT:
THE MEDICATIONS OF FIRST CHOICE ARE PAINKILLERS, BIRTH CONTROL PILLS CAN BE USED IN PATIENTS WITH INSUFFICIENT CONTRACEPTIVES, MAGNESIUM MASSAGE, HEAT APPLICATION, HERBAL MEDICINES, EXERCISE, MEDIATION AND YOGA CAN BE RECOMMENDED AS AN ADJUNCT. THESE CAN PROVIDE AN EFFECTIVE SOLUTION TO PRIMARY DYSMENORRHEA. IN SECONDARY DYSMENORRHEA, SURGICAL TREATMENT MAY BE REQUIRED FOR THE CAUSE.
As Private Akdeniz Hospital Gynecology and Obstetrics Department, we wish you a healthy day.
