Nutrition and diet
In our nutrition and diet department, individuals are taught the correct nutritional steps for a healthy life. Nutrition; It is the use of nutrients for growth, sustaining life, and protecting health. Nutritional deficiency and imbalance are factors that cause some diseases and also indirectly affect some diseases. Obesity is one of those diseases. Obesity; Today it has become a public health problem that threatens the whole world. Obesity can lead to many metabolic diseases. The benefit of an adequate and balanced, individually tailored diet in the prevention and treatment of these diseases as well as in aftercare is undisputed. The nutrition and diet section is not only very important when losing weight, but also when there is no weight gain (anorexia, malnutrition, bulimia, etc.). In addition, diet plays a major role in various diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, cancer and kidney disease. As the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at Akdeniz Private Hospital, we take an approach that does not compromise the principles of evidence-based practices and respect for patient preferences, and we provide services on individual diet programs for illness.
To this end, in the first meeting of our customers, who come to our polyclinic with our multidisciplinary perspective, we check the eating habits in detail.
With our professional body analyzer; we determine the body fat, muscle and water content and the distribution of the existing fat in the body. We then plan a "personalized nutritional treatment" depending on the nutritional history, age, size, gender, physical activity and blood findings and monitor this regularly.
Another important point that distinguishes us in our department is the use of the NRS 2002 form, developed by the European Association of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, to assess the risk of malnutrition (clinical condition due to insufficient intake of vitamins, minerals , Proteins and similar substances necessary for the body) the nutritional therapy must be planned and accompanied.
In addition, we offer our patients treated in our inpatient services special diet programs for their illnesses, regular planning of their menus during their hospital stay and information services about their diet.
Preventive nutrition
Childhood Diet: Did you know that many of the diseases we encounter in adults are seeds that are planted in childhood? To what extent do you give your child adequate nutritional education? Is your diet properly guided in school? If you have any questions, our nutrition and diet department can advise you on what kind of nutrition you can give your child from an early stage of life.
Diet during puberty:
Puberty is one of the phases when children are most concerned about their physical characteristics. If not properly guided at this age, they may apply incorrect information for reasons of beauty. However, they are still in the age of growth and development, and improper food systems can cause irreversible and permanent damage in the future. If you observe such tendencies in your growing child, you can seek advice from the nutrition and diet department of our clinic.
Diet during pregnancy:
Are you planning a pregnancy or have you just found out that you are pregnant? During your pregnancy you can get advice from our department to ensure both the healthy development of the baby, not to gain too much than it should, and the dietary changes you need to make while breastfeeding.

NUTRITIONAL DISORDERS (UNDERNUTRITION):
This is a condition that can occur in infancy or adulthood due to malnutrition or a disease (cancer, AIDS, bowel disease, etc.).
It is a medical nutritional therapy that aims to strike a balance between the amount a person ingests and their needs.
Obesity :
As a disease that invades our lives with increasing frequency worldwide and in our country, obesity unfortunately brings us into trouble not only physically but also metabolically, inviting many chronic diseases.
Obesity is a multifactorial disease in which body weight exceeds desired levels due to the excessive increase in the ratio of body fat mass to lean mass due to the chronic imbalance between the amount of energy consumed with food and energy expenditure.
Obesity is a disease that needs treatment.
Many methods are used in diagnosing obesity. Among these, the most practical and widely used method is the formula we call Body Mass Index (BMI). To get a picture of your body weight using this formula, it is sufficient to divide your weight (kg) by your height in square meters (m²) and see which part it is entered in the scale below.
BMI weight (kg) / height (m²)
BMI VALUES;
Less than 18.9 kg / m² - SLIM
Between 19-24.9 kg / m² - NORMAL
Between 25-29.9 kg / m² - CHUBBY (LIGHT OVERWEIGHT)
Between 30-34.9 kg / m² - OVERWEIGHT (OBESE) (HEALTH RISK)
People over 35 - VERY OVERWEIGHT (HIGH HEALTH RISK)
TREATMENT OF ABSENT WEIGHT GAIN AND NUTRITIONAL DISORDERS
In addition to weight gain due to nutritional disorder and imbalance, problems such as failure to gain weight are also observed. Nutritional problems such as anorexia and bulimia are effectively combated with healthy nutrition programs and supportive treatments.
What is Metabolism?
Metabolism is the chemical process by which the energy the body needs to perform basic functions such as respiration and digestion is converted into energy by breaking down food molecules in food and drinks.
Why is metabolic rate important?
Metabolic rate is the biggest determinant of weight balance. A fast-working system uses food as energy by not storing it. The slow way of working contributes to an increase in weight due to the storage of food
What are the factors affecting metabolic rate?
Metabolic rate is related to age, gender, eating habits, physical activity, chronic diseases and medications. Metabolic rate may increase or decrease with the differences in these conditions.
The most effective of these factors is age. During infancy and childhood, metabolism works very fast. As we get older, metabolic rate starts to slow down.
Gender is another factor affecting the metabolic rate. This is due to both the genetic structure and the difference in the lives of men and women. Genetically, men have a faster metabolism due to their hormone and muscle structure.
Some chronic diseases (such as Hashimoto's, diabetes) and some medications used have an effect on metabolic rate. While some drugs slow down the rate, some drugs accelerate it.
The most important factors that depend on the individual in metabolic rate are eating habits and physical activity. Nutritional content, meal times, amount of water consumption, spices used form the eating habits and affect the metabolic rate.
Physical activity accelerates metabolism as it supports muscle growth. For this reason, regular exercise is always important.
What Are the Foods That Accelerate Metabolism?
Metabolism-accelerating foods may differ depending on the person. According to researches, ginger, hot pepper, cinnamon, vinegar, green tea, mate tea have a metabolism accelerating effect.
Especially protein (meat products-eggs-dairy products) consumption accelerates the metabolism as the body will need a great deal of energy during digestion and this energy will be obtained by using calories that will be stored by the metabolism.
Another is fibrous foods (vegetables and fruits). Fibrous foods are difficult to digest and expend a lot of energy during digestion. This is one of the ways to speed up basal metabolism.
Spices such as cumin, rosemary, thyme, turmeric are metabolism boosters.
What Are Other Metabolism Boosting Factors?
Sleep, stress and water consumption are also metabolism boosting factors.
*Getting more or less sleep than needed can cause the metabolic rate to slow down.
*While intermittent stress has the effect of accelerating metabolism, being under stress for a long time slows down the metabolic rate.
*Research shows that regular consumption of water in regular amounts and at the rate required by the body accelerates metabolism.
