Orthopedics and Traumatology
Orthopedics and Traumatology Department, which is one of the important Surgical Branches of Medical Science, deals with the functions of the movement system, the surgical and conservative treatment of diseases and injuries of the movement system. In addition, it has undertaken important functions in the prevention of these diseases and injuries, that is, in the sense of preventive medicine.
The word orthopedics is derived from the combination of the Latin words orthos (Smooth) and pedios (Child). Traumatology is also of Latin origin and means the branch of science related to injury and damage. Orthopedics aims to obtain healthy and healthy individuals freed from motion system diseases, Traumatology aims to restore the old functions of the injured and injured motion system elements and to save the life of the injured.
Our Movement System Skeleton (Bone and joints) structure consists of the Spine and upper extremities (Shoulder – arm – forearm – hand) connected to it via the Thoracic Cage at the top and lower extremities (Hip – leg – calf – foot) connected via the Pelvis ( Pelvis) below. occurs. The neck region of the spine carries our head. It carries the thoracic cage and upper extremities, which contain the lungs, heart, esophagus and great vessels in the dorsal region. The waist and coccyx region contains and carries the organs and systems in the abdomen together with the pelvis. It transmits all these loads on the spine to the ground through the lower extremities.
Muscles, which are the other important elements of the Movement System, start by sticking to the protruding parts of the bones in the skeleton or surfaces specially formed for them, and they adhere to a bone surface in the same way by traversing at least one or sometimes two joints.
The Motion System has the ability to move normally without pain. Persistent pain during movements or at rest is a pathological condition. Difficulty in movements or limitation of movement with pain is also a symptom of the disease. Continuous sound from the joints and pain along with this sound is also a pathological finding. Apart from these, swelling on the bones and joints, increased temperature, redness, warmth are other important symptoms. Decreased muscle strength, decreased feeling, numbness, tingling are the signs of nervous dysfunction. The limp may be the result of a disorder of the skeletal, muscular, or nervous system. Muscle thinning (atrophy) develops due to unused or underused. Paleness, coldness or bruising in the extremities indicates a pathology of the circulatory system.
